JOB TITLE: Senior Living Center Director of Nursing

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

RATE: Salaried, Based on Experience

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for oversight of the Nursing Home including personnel supervision, equipment maintenance, scheduling of staff, maintain compliance with State & Federal health care regulations. Works in collaboration with the Hospital Nurse Manager to assure supervisory coverage to both nursing home and hospital units.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:​

1. Hiring, orientation, daily supervision, staff evaluation, & termination of nursing staff to effectively meet staff requirements within an approved budget.

2. Provide professional direction to staff to provide nursing care to meet standards of practice & State & Federal regulations.

3. Professional planning for equipment purchase & maintain for use in providing effective care within approved budget.

4. Participate with peers to provide administrative leadership to facility.

5. Demonstrate positive customer service attitude.

6. Manage facility environment to provide a safe, clean, therapeutic environment for residents.

7. Maintain orderly, complete, & confidential files of personnel.

8. Teaching staff by example & in formal presentations

9. Record keeping of employee in-service & staff competency.

10. Conduct regular staff meetings to communicate facility operation.

11. Participate as a member of the management team.

12. Provide managerial coverage for the Hospital Nurse Manager.

13. Approve/calculate payroll time.

14. Perform first review/analysis of incident reports for Risk Manager.

15. Other management duties as assigned.

16. Provide leadership and oversight to the Care Planning & MDS process.

EDUCATION:

Nursing degree from an accredited program preferred; diploma from accredited program of nursing. Current licensure as RN by State Board of Nursing. Acceptable KBI record check.

EXPERIENCE:

Five years experience in medical-surgical nursing including management; working knowledge of KDHE regulations.

​

SKILLS:

Broad knowledge base of med-surg nursing; basic administrative knowledge of management; experience in interviewing, employee counseling, conflict resolution; ability to

communicate verbally & in writing; organizational skills. Knowledge of infection control standards; knowledge of pharmaceuticals.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

supervise staff of RNs, LPNs, CMAs, CNAs, and other nursing home staff.

​

EQUIPMENT TO BE USED:

Basic nursing equipment, cardiac monitors, telemetry, CPM device, scales, Sara lift, Hoyer lift, defibrillator, cardiac pacing equipment, whirlpool, crash carts, suction machine, O2 concentrator, IV pumps, Maxi mist device, copy machine, Fax machine, basic computers.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

Must speak clearly; repetitive motions using wrists, hands, and /or fingers; average hearing & vision; mathematics ability; language ability for large quantity of reading, report preparation, & communication.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The employee works in an environment with biological, chemical and mechanical hazards. The employer will provide appropriate training, protective equipment and engineering controls for the protection and safety of the employee. As a condition of employment the employee is required to abide by all risk management regulations including the proper use of protective devices and procedures.
