
JOB TITLE: Medical Biller/Coder
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

RATE: $21.00 - $25.00 per hour
Status: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Performs under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer. The Medical Biller/Coder will perform tasks related to patient account management, collections receipt, prior authorization of medical services, and intake coordination.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Will assist senior biller to ensure that all patient accounts are properly billed on a timely basis.
- Reviews patient accounts and determines the most efficient means to expedite the billing
- Gathers and organizes all material required to process initial billing.
- Determines proper diagnoses for billing of the accounts.
- Verifies billing data received to ensure accuracy of billing/rebilling/late charge billing.
- Resolves problems presented by patients or their representatives.

2. Collections: Assist with the medical center's credit and collection function. The employee will make phone calls to attempt collection on past-due accounts.

3. Prior authorizations: Will call insurance companies to obtain prior authorizations for patients.
4. Conducts interview with patients to compile intake information and works with insurance companies to ensure coverage. Refers patients to service providers and verifies appointments. Will speak with patients regarding their estimated cost of service.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must have certification in billing and coding.
• Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance.
• Must meet all local health regulations; pass post-offer drug test, and post-offer employment physical exam if required.
• Must be capable of performing essential job functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodations.

• Must possess problem-solving skills of the type and at a level necessary to accomplish the job.
• Must demonstrate good time management and organizational skills.
• Must be able to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing and follow verbal and written direction.

EQUIPMENT TO BE USED:
Computer, telephone, fax machine, and all business office equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
The employee works in an environment with biological, chemical and mechanical hazards. The employer will provide appropriate training, protective equipment and engineering controls for the protection and safety of the employee. As a condition of the employment the employee is required to abide by all risk management regulations including the proper use of protective devices and procedures.
