JOB TITLE: Speech Language Pathologist

RATE: $43.05 - $62.72 per hour
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Speech-Language Pathologist utilizes select knowledge and skills to evaluate, plan and provide care and services for patients with developmental or acquired impairments of verbal and written language, voice articulation, fluency, auditory and visual processing, cognition, memory and alternative/augmentative communication, and swallowing.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Demonstrate a positive attitude of customer service.
2. Participating member of rehab team.
3. Creates and follows assessments and established plan of care.
4. Administer treatments according to patient’s needs under the guidance of Therapy Coordinator.
5. Record prognosis, treatment, response and progress in patient's chart or computer.
6. Maintains documentation for each patient in compliance with Agency policies and HCFA regulations.
7. Discharge patients per agreement with Therapy Coordinator, when projected outcomes have been attained and provide for follow-up care or referrals.
8. Other tasks as requested by supervisor for safe care and smooth operation of department.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Graduate from an accredited program for Speech Language Pathologists.
• Must possess and maintain a current license in the state of practice as required.
• Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance.
• Must meet all local health regulations; pass post-offer drug test, and post-offer employment physical exam if required.
• Must be capable of performing essential job functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
• Must have own transportation to travel between sites if needed.
• Must meet Clinical Competency requirements upon hire and as needed.
SKILLS:
• Must possess problem-solving skills of the type and at a level necessary to accomplish the job.
• Must demonstrate good time management and organizational skills.
• Must be able to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing and follow verbal and written direction.
• Must be able to relate professionally, positively, and cooperatively with patients, patient’s family members and facility staff.
• Must possess computer skills of the type and at a level necessary to accomplish specific job duties and assignments.

SCOPE AND COMPLEXITY:
• The scope and complexity of the patient care needs will vary with the individuality of the patient.
• The following impairments shall be addressed by Speech-Language Pathology: apraxia, aphasia, dysarthria (flaccid, spastic, ataxic, hypokinetic, hyperkinetic and mixed dysarthrias), voice disorders and maxillo-facial disorders.
• The complexity of the care needs is directly proportional to the severity of the impairment, with primarily non-invasive testing and intervention methods utilized. ï‚· The patient may require an invasive type of diagnostic testing, such as swallowing evaluation under fluoroscopy.

• The attending or consulting physician must issue an order to institute Speech-Language Pathology.
EQUIPMENT TO BE USED:
Computer, telephone, fax machine, and all speech therapy equipment and devices.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL/ MENTAL DEMANDS:
Must speak clearly; repetitive motion using wrists, hands and/or fingers; average hearing and vision; must be able to use good body mechanics to: lift up to 40 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally; to maneuver various equipment (weight 150 to 175#); be able to reach, turn, and/or bend as necessary to perform duties; must be able to be on feet on concrete hallways for up to an 8-hour shift with breaks and meal time; to think clearly and manage a large amount of information quickly, prioritizing and handling patient, resident and/or staff concerns in order of importance; reasoning ability; mathematics ability; language ability for large quantity of reading, report preparation and communication; variable paced environment, with stimuli from several directions, and must have ability to triage and manage all information effectively.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The employee works in an environment with biological, chemical and mechanical hazards. The employer will provide appropriate training, protective equipment and engineering controls for the protection and safety of the employee. As a condition of the employment the employee is required to abide by all risk management regulations including the proper use of protective devices and procedures.
