
JOB TITLE: Activities Assistant

RATE: $18.00 - $26.22 per hour
Status: PRN
Schedule: Saturday & Sunday, Flexible Hours
POSITION SUMMARY:
Works with the Activity Director, under supervision of the Social Services Manager, responsible for assisting with activities program for long term care residents, swing bed patients, and assisted living residents.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Provides assistance to the Assisted Living patients as needed i.e.: stand by assistance for bathing; laundry; tidy up of area; activities and any other tasks necessary for the smooth operation of the unit.

2. Confer with the Social Services manager analyzing individual needs and limitations in planning activities that are incorporated in the overall resident plan of care.

3. Keep records of residents’ attendance, participation and attitude on quarterly basis.
​
4. Procure and maintain supplies and equipment in a safe manner, maintaining the activity area in good order.
​
5. Find sources of salvageable and donated materials and use them to the fullest extent possible in order to maintain costs.
​
6. Secure outside entertainment and confirm their scheduled performance.
​
7. Invite and encourage residents to participate in each day’s activities where appropriate, finding methods to motivate them to take an interest in life and the community.
​
8. Responsible for spiritual care of residents, making Chaplain’s list available to residents and scheduling regular services in the facility.

9. Demonstrate positive attitude of customer service.
​
10. Cover for Activity Director as needed.
​
11. Any other tasks as requested and needed for the smooth operation of this department.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have valid CNA license.

One year experience working in resident activity program or the equivalent in a health care setting or the enrollment in an activities director program within 120 days after employment

Knowledge of philosophy of rehabilitation.

Must have acceptable KBI record check.

Must be 21 years of age or older.

Must have valid driver's license and ability to drive company vehicles as directed.
SKILLS:
Creative capabilities, flexibility, patience, ability to understand recreational needs of long term care individuals and possess an out-going, pleasant manner and sincere desire in working with them.
EQUIPMENT TO BE USED:
Computer, telephone, fax machine, and all occupational therapy equipment and devices.

SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS:
Oversees volunteers who are assisting with activities.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL/ MENTAL DEMANDS:
Regularly required to sit, talk or hear. Frequently required to sit for long periods of time, stand, use hands, reach and walk, stoop and bend; must occasionally lift or move with appropriate body mechanics up to 30 pounds. Must be able to perform tasks with frequent interruptions
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The employee works in an environment with biological, chemical and mechanical hazards. The employer will provide appropriate training, protective equipment and engineering controls for the protection and safety of the employee. As a condition of employment the employee is required to abide by all risk management regulations including the proper use of protective devices and procedures.
