JOB TITLE: Clinic Nurse

RATE: $25.00 - $44.08 per hour

Status: PRN

Shift: Monday Only

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs routine administrative and patient care supportive duties in a health clinic to assist medical and / or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

CLERICAL DUTIES MAY INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

  • · Answer telephones

  • · Greet patients

  • · Update and file patient medical records

  • · Handle correspondence

  • · Schedule appointments

  • · Arrange for hospital admissions

  • · Arrange for laboratory services

  • · Provide business office with accurate patient information in a timely manner for billing and posting functions

  • · Perform other administrative duties as directed

  • · Triage patient phone calls in relation to emergency, urgent and routine need for care

  • · Arrange referrals to specialists including pertinent data to facilitate with continuity of care

  • · Notify patient of testing results and schedule follow-up if indicated

  • · Cross train for clerical duties to include patient demographic information, insurance, and collecting co-payments.

 

CLINICAL DUTIES MAY INCLUDE

  • Perform a variety of routine duties in a hospital clinic to assist medical and nursing staff with examination and treatment of patients to include obtaining and recording data for medical records, collecting and preparing specimens for laboratory analysis, and undressing, cleansing and positioning patients for specific procedures.

  • Perform routine examination and treatment procedures to include administering enemas, removing casts, cleaning wounds and applying medications and dressings.

  • Set up and clean examination rooms to include changing linen and making beds; set up instruments and equipment for specific procedures; hand instruments, supplies and equipment to examining physician.

  • Pick up and deliver specimens, equipment, messages and supplies as directed; maintain inventory of supplies in examination rooms, replenish as required.

  • Escort and transport patients to various clinic locations; schedule patient appointments and prepare related records.

  • Maintain work area in clean and orderly condition; wash a variety of medical supplies.

  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

  • Assist medical and nursing staff in a variety of tasks including:

  • Taking medical histories and recording vital signs Explaining treatment procedures to patients

  • Preparing patients for examinations and procedures

  • Assisting the nurse practitioner or physician during examination and procedures

  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens including phlebotomy

  • Perform basic laboratory tests on the premises

  • Dispose of contaminated supplies

  • Clean medical instruments in prep for sterilization

  • Promote patient/family understanding of the educational content and his/her involvement in the plan of care, and document in patient record.

  • Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician and/or nurse practitioner.

  • Authorize drug refills as directed. Telephone prescriptions to a pharmacy.

  • Prepare patients for x-rays, tests and procedures. Conduct electrocardiograms

  • Remove sutures / staples. Change sterile and non-sterile dressings.

  • Perform other clinical functions as delegated and supervised by the nurse practitioner / or physician.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from accredited nursing program. High School Diploma or GED graduation. Experience helpful, but not required.

 

SKILLS:

Good customer service skills. Work requires the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions generally acquired through a high school education and medical assistant program. Heavy lifting and the ability to transport stretcher and wheelchair patients may be required. Working knowledge of sterile techniques and special procedures that are applicable to work performed. Working knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering routine and special treatment to patients. Working knowledge of sanitation, personal hygiene and basic health and safety precautions applicable for work in a clinic setting. Working knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions. Age specific competencies. Able to document and communicate pertinent information. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with patients and clinic staff.

 

EQUIPMENT TO BE USED:

Vital sign equipment to do B/P, SAO2, RR, Wt. Scale, Stethoscope, Medical instruments, vein-puncture equipment, computer, Lytec equipment, Lab centrifuge, lock boxes, telephones, other office equipment.

 

TYPICAL PHYSICAL/ MENTAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds with assistance, be able to turn, twist and/or bend as necessary to perform care and treatments of patients; must be able to be on feet on concrete hallways for at least an 8-hour shift. Must be able to show evidence of knowledge and ability to use recognized channels of communication.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The employee works in an environment with biological, chemical and mechanical hazards. The employer will provide appropriate training, protective equipment and engineering controls for the protection and safety of the employee. As a condition of the employment the employee is required to abide by all risk management regulations including the proper use of protective devices and procedures.
